Shardul Thakur emerged as the spearhead of the Mumbai attack in the absence of Dhawal Kulkarni in the 2014-15 season. Although, Mumbai were knocked out in the semi-finals, the pacer finished as the joint highest-wicket taker along with Vinay Kumar in Ranji Trophy 2014-15 with 48 wickets. His contribution with the ball was crucial to Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy victory in 2015-16 season.
While he finished with 41 wickets in the season he claimed eight against Saurashtra in the final. While his ability to swing the ball keeps the batsmen on their toes, Thakur is also an able bat down the order. His heroics in the 2014-15 season had earned him a call-up in the India ‘A’ team and has since been a regular in the squad. The 2017, Indian Premier League was the pacerman’s most successful outing in the premier tournament where he turned out for Rising Pune Supergiant. He was part of the India squad that toured West Indies in 2016.
