BCCI appoints Mr Saba Karim as GM, Cricket Operations

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announces the appointment of Mr Saba Karim as General Manager, Cricket Operations.

Some of the major responsibilities of Mr Karim include giving strategic direction to the cricket department, implementing the operational plans, budgeting, determining and monitoring the compliance of match playing regulations, standards of venues, administration of Domestic Program.

Mr Karim will assume office from January 1, 2018. He will report to Mr Rahul Johri - CEO, BCCI, and assist him in meeting Board's vision and strategy.

Profile: Mr Karim has a vast knowledge of the game and its intricacies, both at the top and the domestic level having represented India in one Test and 34 ODIs. As wicket-keeper batsman, he played 120 first-class games and 124 List ‘A’ matches in a career spanning close to 18 years.

A prolific run-getter, Mr Karim has a first-class average of 56.66 with 22 centuries and 33 half-centuries that helped him amass over 7000 runs while playing for Bihar first and later Bengal. His playing career received an untimely jolt when he suffered an injury to his right eye in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh following which he had to undergo a surgery.

He was appointed a national selector from the East Zone in 2012 and after completing his term; he took over as a television commentator. Mr Karim also has a corporate background having worked in the Corporate Communications Division of TISCO.

BCCI appoints Mr Tufan Ghosh as COO, NCA

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Mr Tufan Ghosh as the Chief Operating Officer of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

The NCA has been a second home for most cricketers across all age groups for skills enhancement, training, strength conditioning, fitness assessment, and recuperation. Be it pre-season or ahead of an important tour, the NCA regularly hosts camps for national teams including the women’s teams.

The BCCI now owns a consolidated 40 acres of land at Arebinnamangala village near the Aerospace Park region in Bengaluru where it wishes to set up the new NCA. Mr Ghosh will play a key role in setting up the facility and creating a Centre of Excellence.

Profile of Mr Tufan Ghosh:


One of the top professionals in the healthcare and hospitality industry, Mr Ghosh comes with more than 29 years of experience. He was the CEO, Columbia Asia in 2005 and looked after operations right from the time the group's first hospital came into existence.

He was instrumental in setting up the organisation and its services from scratch, including all policies and procedures, recruitment, marketing, developing systems, launching and operating 11 hospitals. He has developed and has been responsible for establishing the Columbia Asia brand in India. After a 12-year long stint, he switched from his position as CEO to spearhead a leading senior living company involved in developing world-class retirement communities for senior citizens across India.

Previously, he held various senior positions in Oberoi hotels across the country in various capacities. He is a Science graduate with Statistics Honors from Presidency College, Kolkata and a diploma holder in Hotel Management from the Oberoi School of Hotel Management in New Delhi.
